So…Are you doomed to a certain fate because of your genes? Not necessarily. Earlier I noted that the gene influences the phenotype expression of an individual. More specifically, genetic predisposition differs from genotypic effect in that the outcome can be changed or altered by other factors. Even more specifically, just because you have a predisposition doesn’t mean it is inevitable and doesn’t count as an excuse either.

So if you think you may have a susceptibility or predisposition to addiction of any kind, be mindful and don’t get yourself in a bad situation. Please keep in mind, though, that this gene does not differentiate between an addiction to alcohol or gambling or drugs. It is even possible to become addicted to a certain food such as sunflower seeds. Any and all of these are considered an addiction if you are habitually or compulsively occupied with or involved with it. Be aware of yourself and keep control.
